End of day one

The boys have made it to their first hotel in one piece!  After a very long day, cycling in heat of 40+ degrees along the beautiful coastline, with the final 30 miles along a dual carriageway into a headwind and a nifty little manoeuvre over a railway line they have arrived in Gresseto and are currently tucking into a hearty meal.  One or two bike problems were solved with a pit-stop at a handy Italian bike shop, and a much-needed siesta was taken in the shade at the hottest point of the day.  Tomorrow promises to be a shorter route along the cost to Pisa.

Here are a few highlights from Stu:

It is hard to know where to begin to describe day one so I’ll start with some figures….10 litres of fluid, a temperature of just over 40 degrees, and 120 miles covered; the last half of which was into a head wind!! In short it was like cycling in a fan assisted oven!! and I’ll end by saying that despite this, the only down side of the day for me was the long section of busy dual carriageway which couldn’t be avoided.

  1. Hi Rebecca, it Alan from Hotel in Rome, just a quick note to say well done guys and my money's on Kyle to grow the best set of Wiggo's, speaking of Kyle saw him hard at work ( in a sun chair ) on our way to Pisa couldn't stop on opposite side, tell him by the way to watch were he is parking to wait for the guys by Pisa there is some sort of very large military base and along the road in each layby are lots of ladies sitting on sun chairs, so tell him to watch out ( unless he's short of cash that is )
